Recently Hootsuite’s CEO Ryan Holmes sent out a mass email launching their self study ecourse called Podium. Hootsuite as a company has recognized that over 89% of the last two years has seen a spike in social media based jobs. With that said, Podium has a natural progression for Hootsuite to roll out this educational platform. What is great about it is that they offer free education. This is why they are one of my favorite companies that really understands the need for free educational formats.


MailChimp is also another leading social media company that offers free training and plenty of informative guides that offer specific solutions for your business. Where else can you get a guide from helping musicians promote to how to avoid spam filters?

Why You Need This

In the New Zealand market social media is still a fairly new concept and no matter what position you hold you will need to have a fair amount of social knowledge to navigate to your next career move.

The newby will need to be knowledgeable around social concepts and implementations. You will most likely be the in-house educator and will have to push for relevant social causes around your business organization. You will need that education piece, and having completed programs like MailChimp and Hootsuite’s Podium will give you enough social cred to be taken seriously.

If you hold a more senior position I would argue that you will need a form of social education to fully understand your brand’s trajectory. As you wouldn’t have an intern in your accountants chair, you may not want to have an intern run your brand’s message or be in charge of your reputation management.

As the company’s thought leader, you will need to understand cause and effect of social action. A huge part of this is the analytical piece to measure your return on investment.
